One fateful morning, our founder Max was cooking breakfast in his apartment. The smell of freshly toasted bread filled the air as he prepared for what he thought would be another ordinary day. But then, the toaster unexpectedly sparked, igniting a small fire on the countertop. 

Panic gripped Max. As a quadriplegic, he was fully aware of his limitations in this critical moment. His eyes darted to the bright red fire extinguisher hanging on the wall—a tool that, for most people, would offer a lifeline. The extinguisher’s design—with its rigid pin system and heavy weight—was impossible for him to use. All he could do was watch as the fire burned. Luckily for Max, the fire slowly went out by itself. 

That day, he didn’t just feel the danger of the flames—he felt the deeper burn of vulnerability, the searing realization that safety devices, designed to save lives, had completely excluded people like him.

And so, Adapted Safety was born.

At Adapted Safety, our mission is to help people with disabilities and seniors to live independently and age in place. We are committed to making sure that everyone has the safety tools they need to protect themselves or their loved ones in emergencies.
